Vanilla features that are switched off in the Caeldun Isles, and why.

Settlers III is about slow progress and real distance. A few vanilla features would undo that in an afternoon, so they're switched off. All of these are enforced in game.

TeleportingNo /home, /spawn, /tpa, /back, warps or region hopping.
Keeping items on deathYou drop everything where you die.
ElytraElytra won't open. You can wear one, but you can't glide.
The NetherNether portals won't light, and existing portals don't take you anywhere.
The EndEnd portals don't take you anywhere.
Ice-boat highwaysIce, packed ice and blue ice can't be placed.
Placing waterWater can't be poured from a bucket or a dispenser. Lava can't either.

Teleporting

There's no way to teleport. No /home, /spawn, /tpa, /back, /backdeath or warps, and no jumping between regions. Distance is the whole game: if you want to be somewhere, you travel there, and your goods travel with you. Where you respawn is set by sleeping in a bed.

Keeping items on death

When you die, you drop everything you're carrying where you fell. With no teleporting, getting it back means travelling there before it despawns (vanilla gives you 5 minutes once you're nearby) and before anyone else finds it. Carry what you need, not everything you own, and bank the rest at home.

Elytra

Flight would make the size of the world meaningless. Gliding is cancelled the moment it starts, so elytra are decoration at best. To cover distance, build roads, ride horses or sail. See Ships.

The Nether

The Nether is sealed. Portal frames won't light, so there's no Nether travel (which would cut every journey to an eighth), no Nether fortresses, and no blaze rods or wither skeletons. The only fire-and-brimstone in the world is on the Burning Isle, and you'll need a ship to reach it.

The End

The End is sealed too. That's also why there are no elytra, shulker boxes from End cities, or dragon eggs.

Ice-boat highways

Boats on packed or blue ice travel faster than almost anything in vanilla, which would turn the long journeys between regions into a few minutes. Ice, packed ice and blue ice can't be placed, so the highways can't be built. Natural ice on frozen water is untouched.

Placing water and lava

You can't create water. Buckets won't pour it, dispensers won't place it, and ice won't melt into it. Lava and powder snow are blocked the same way. You can still fill a bucket from a river or loch, fill water bottles to drink, and fill cauldrons.

This means:

  • Farms go where the water is. Farmland needs water nearby, so fields sit beside rivers, burns and lochs, not wherever you like. See Farming.
  • No infinite water sources, water elevators or bucket-clutch tricks.
  • No lava casts or lava traps.
  • If you want water somewhere, you have to dig a channel to bring it there.
