Nutrition & thirst
LiveFour meters (protein, fruit and veg, grains and thirst) that a varied diet keeps topped up.
On top of the vanilla hunger bar, you have four needs. They show as a bar at the top of the screen whenever you're in a Caeldun world, and /stats prints them in chat.
How fast they fall
| Meter | Lost per Minecraft day | Full to empty |
|---|---|---|
| Protein | 3.5% | about 28 days (roughly 9½ hours of play) |
| Fruit & veg | 3.5% | about 28 days |
| Grains | 3.5% | about 28 days |
| Thirst | 14% | about 7 days (roughly 2⅓ hours of play) |
A Minecraft day is 20 real minutes. Everyone starts at 100%.
Thirst
- Heat makes you thirsty 1.65× faster, in desert, badlands, savanna and jungle biomes.
- Cold slows thirst to 0.7×, in snowy, frozen and high mountain biomes.
- Moving adds up to 35% more thirst, depending on how far you travel.
- Standing in water stops thirst falling and slowly restores it, at about 1% every 10 minutes. That's a trickle, not a drink.
Drinks
| Drink | Thirst | Also |
|---|---|---|
| Water bottle | +20 | |
| Milk bucket | +12 | +4 protein |
| Honey bottle | +4 | +2 fruit & veg |
Water bottles are by far the best way to stay hydrated. Five of them take you from empty to full.
What goes wrong when you run low
Effects are driven by whichever meter is lowest. They're checked every 5 seconds.
| Lowest meter | Chance each check | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 26% or below | 12% | Brief nausea (3 s) or slowness (5 s) |
| 12% or below | 30% | Blindness, longer nausea, or strong slowness |
| 5% or below | 55% | Poison, plus one of the serious effects |
You'll get a quiet chat warning when a meter crosses a low milestone.
Dying
Death takes 5% off every meter, but respawning never leaves a meter below 27%.
Food values
When you eat, a note above your hotbar shows exactly what the food restored. Cooked food is much better than raw, and a stew covers several groups at once.

Any food not listed spreads its value evenly across protein, fruit and veg, and grains.
Where to find each group
- Grains almost all come from wheat: bread, cookies, pie and cake. Wheat only grows properly in the Breadbasket, so most settlements will need to trade for it.
- Fruit & veg: potatoes and beetroot grow in every land. Apples drop from oaks.
- Protein: hunt and fish. Deer, boar, goats and fish are common in the wilder lands.
