About Settlers III

Settlers III is a survival world where the land decides what you can build. Like The Settlers I and II, every region has plenty of something and none of something else, and progress is slow. No settlement can make everything it needs, so wealth comes from where you settle, what you produce and who you trade with.

The Caeldun Isles are a huge, cold, rain-washed archipelago of forests, moors and mountains. Distance is real: there's no teleporting, carrying too much slows you to a crawl, and the open sea can only be crossed by ship.

  • Regional resources: ores, crops and animals differ by land
  • Weight: heavy loads slow you, and heavy armour sinks you
  • Gravity: buildings need support, and wide mines cave in
  • Ships: build them from blocks and sail your cargo home
  • Nutrition: protein, fruit and veg, grains and water
  • Hard death: you drop everything, and there's no teleporting back
  • A gold economy: player-run shops, paid in real gold
No elytra farms on day two. Slow progress, real distance and trade between regions will give us an interesting geopolitical situation, without anyone having to roleplay.

New here?

New settlers arrive on a long sand beach on the warm, gentle island of Tirwenn.

The core rules

  • Regional scarcity: every land has its own ores, crops and animals. Nobody is self-sufficient.
  • Weight: carry too much and you slow to a crawl; heavy armour sinks you.
  • Gravity: buildings must hold themselves up.
  • The open ocean: kills swimmers and small boats. Build a ship.
  • Nutrition: protein, fruit and veg, grains and thirst.
  • Gold is money: players run the shops.
  • No shortcuts: no teleporting, no keeping items on death, no elytra, no Nether, no ice highways, no placing water.
