Weather & climate

Live

It rains about half the time, in long wet spells and brighter ones, and it usually clears for sunset.

The weather in the Caeldun Isles is its own system, not vanilla's occasional storm. It changes often, it rains a lot, and it has a rhythm you'll learn.

Spells

The weather runs in spells of 10 to 40 minutes. Each spell sets the texture of the weather for a while:

SpellHow oftenWhat it's like
Wet spell4 in 5Raining about three-quarters of the time, broken by a short sunny gap (around 40 seconds) every few minutes.
Bright spell1 in 5Mostly sunny, with a quick 15-second shower every four minutes or so.

Overall it rains a little over half the time. It's wetter by day and drier at night.

The sunset break

Most evenings the rain clears about a minute before sunset and stays off for at least three minutes, so you nearly always get to see the sun go down. It happens on about 19 days in 20.

Nights

Dry stretches last much longer after dark, so nights are the calmest time.

Snow

Snow falls only on the very highest ground. The snowline sits around Y 285 in the southern mountains and drops about 3 blocks for every kilometre further north. In the northern pinewoods it's about Y 205. Everywhere else, storms bring rain.

Storms at sea

Out over the abyss, lightning finds swimmers and small boats. See The open ocean.

The Burning Isle

The burning island never sees rain. Only ash falls there, under a dark sky.
