Glossary
Place names, old words and server terms you'll meet around the Caeldun Isles.

| Abyss | The deep ocean beyond an island's shelf, more than 40 blocks deep. Deadly to swimmers and small boats. See The open ocean. |
| Apprentice | The rank every new player starts with. |
| Blaeberry | Bilberry, a low shrub of the pinewood floor. |
| Burn | A mountain stream. Burns with gravel beds are where you pan. |
| Caeldun Isles | The world of Settlers III. |
| Crag | A rocky outcrop. |
| District | A rich patch of an ore within its home land. See Resources. |
| Encumbrance | Being slowed down by what you carry. See Weight. |
| Glen | A long, deep mountain valley. |
| Hang | How far below itself a material can hold something up. See Gravity. |
| Helm / wheel | The block you steer a ship from. |
| Keeper | An NPC that runs a player's shop. |
| Land | One of five groups of regions sharing a climate, ores and crops: Outer Isles, Northlands, Spiderholme, Breadbasket, Rainlands. |
| Loch | A lake, or a sea inlet. |
| Machair | Flat, flowery, sandy grassland behind the beaches of the western isles. |
| Ramsons | Wild garlic, carpeting the oakwood floor in spring. |
| Reach | How far sideways a material can carry a load. See Gravity. |
| Region | One of the fifteen named areas of the map, each with its own character. |
| Shelf | The shallow sea around an island, safe for swimming and small boats. |
| Shingle | A beach of pebbles and gravel. Most Caeldun beaches are shingle; sand is found in sheltered bays. |
| Spell | A stretch of weather lasting 10 to 40 minutes, either wet or bright. See Weather. |
